WWKiP Day 2010
It’s that special time of year again…..World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKiP)! This year WWKiP runs from June 12th to 20th. For locations in your area, visit www.wwkipday.com.
Pack up your favorite skein of yarn, needles and/or hook….Find a good spot…..And, let’s get stitching!
Handsome Mr. Darcy….
Have you met my sweet kitty, Mr. Darcy? He looked so handsome last night as I took photos of my “V is for Victory” Scarf…I couldn’t resist taking a shot or two of him. He’s such a good boy!
Victory!
Well, I finished my “V is for Victory” scarf last night and I wanted to share a few pics of the final product.
I am very happy with the final results and I can not stress how easy and fun this pattern is to make. Everywhere I went, I got tons of compliments on the scarf, which made me feel great! In fact, yesterday at the pool, I was working on the finishing rows and this little girl came up to me to admire the scarf. “You’re doing really good with that knitting,” she said to sort of break the ice. (Aah….how sweet!
) Then, she started telling me how her nana knits great gifts for her. How special! I told her that she was a really lucky girl and then I explained that the scarf was in memory of our service men and women and that it would be donated to someone who has lost a loved one while serving our country…..she was really touched and it felt great to share a few “fibers” moments with her. Maybe she is a knitter/crocheter in the making?!? I am sure her nana would be thrilled!
Couture Meets Crochet
Elle Magazine published a wonderful little snapshot of the latest fashion trend – CROCHET! I couldn’t resist sharing.
Personally, I love this dress. The jacket leaves me quite lack-luster, however. And, the underwear is to-die-for! Funny, though, I can’t imagine spending so much money on something I could easily make. The satification from completing such a project would be priceless, too. At the rate I am going, though, you will probably need to pry the hook from my hand in a few years because in order to finish my “things to make” list, I will need to crochet 24 hours a day, none-stop. Can you imagine? Sounds like heaven
.
Fabulous Find!
Fellow blogger, Snowcatcher, has introduced me to these wonderful socks and I can’t stop daydreaming about them. First all, I have the perfect yarn for this project that has been languishing in my office because I could never figure out what to make with it. It’s supersock merino in color Wild Cherry, made by Cherry Tree Hill Yarn.
And, second of all, I am anxious to prove that sock-making isn’t just for knitters. Now, I just have to find the time…..as always, too many projects, too little time.
The pattern is available for FREE at www.knitandcrochetnow.com. Look for Show 205: Colorful Socks!
No Turn on Red

Do you ever ask yourself some days why you taught your kids to read? I had one of those moments last Friday night. I was driving my son home from swim practice when I slowly approached a yellow light. I looked both ways and made a smooth right turn as the light turned red. Precisely at that moment, my son yells out – “MOM! The sign said no turn on red.” I had to keep myself from laughing out loud as I thought, ”Darn it, the kid can really read.” Honestly, I completely missed the sign. My son has probably saved me from a future ticket for making a traffic violation at that intersection. I guess I should be very thankful for that!
Happy Days Are Here Again!
It’s all done! The pdf for my Happy Days Patchwork Quilt is now available as a FREE download via Ravelry!
Please keep in mind that this blanket was designed especially for foster children. I wanted something full of color and texture, something to comfort them and to put a smile on their faces. My hope is that it will serve as a happy escape during moments of uncertainty and sadness.
While I have made it available as a FREE download, I kindly ask (BEG!) that you make at least one of these blankets for a foster child in your area or for your favorite charity.
And people were bringing children to Him that He might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this He became indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:13-14
How To: Single Crochet Seam
The single crochet seam is a fun and simple way to join motifs. Best of all, it creates a nice decorative edge. My Happy Days Patchwork Quilt is joined using this method. So, I decided to put together a quick tutorial just in case those wishing to give this afghan a try needed a walk through of the technique.
Step 1: Hold two motifs together with wrong sides facing. (Note: For the Happy Days Patchwork Quilt, the right sides should be facing as I put the decorative edge on the back. If you wish, you may change it to the front, though.)
Step 2: Place a loop on the hook and insert through the edges of both motifs.
Step 3: YO, pull loop through the edges of both motifs. You now have 2 loops on your hook.
Step 4: YO, pull through both loops on the hook.
Lessons Learned

For the past couple of nights, I have been working on the pdf for my Happy Days Patchwork Quilt pattern. During the process, I realized that I have made a royal mistake and I am kicking myself over and over. Bottom line, I should have taken notes while I was designing. Now, I am trying to recreate the pdf from a diagram of the quilt that I drew in the beginning of February. I can barely remember yesterday, let alone 4 months ago!
New Rule – From now on, I am writing out the pattern as I design…..my life will be so much easier that way.
Poolside Projects
I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing better than crocheting by the side of the pool on a beautiful June afternoon…..
