Mom, are YOU a leader?

I just read a wonderful piece in the Washington Post on a local mom who exhibits the spirit and true essence of leadership. The article gave me a lot of food for thought because I rarely, if ever, think of myself as a real leader. Yes, I manage carpools and juggle the busy schedules of three kids while holding down a part-time job, but that’s all normal “mom stuff.” The mom in this article raised nearly $100,000 to bring a new leadership program to her kid’s school, not to mention a Catholic girl’s club and annual fashion show to highlight modesty. Amazing! And, her secret was 1) prayer, 2) plan, and 3) use the talents of everyone in her team. Sounds simple enough but putting it into action is another thing altogether. I often get caught up on number 1. I often get lost when I ask myself – what is God calling me to do? I need BIG, clear road signs. I am too often over-committed and honestly, I have no idea if I am being effective at anything. So, the story has put me into re-evaluation mode. How can I be an effective leader? What is God calling me to do for His kingdom?
